Pasture Management Training = June 3rd-4th, 2026

The Piapot Pasture Management Training began on June 3rd, with welcoming remarks delivered by:

  • Chief Mark Fox (Piapot First Nation)
  • Leonard Tipewan, Executive Director of SALT

The morning program continued with a presentation on the history of Piapot by Allery Carrier. Community leadership was well represented, with remarks shared by Councillors:

  • Nicole Crowe
  • Harold Kaiswatum and,
  • Crystal Crowe

Additional remarks were provided by the Lands and Economic Development Officer, Deverell Crowe.

Following the morning session, participants travelled to the pasture for a hands-on learning experience focused on branding and castration practices.

In the afternoon, attendees returned for a session led by Art Francis, who provided valuable knowledge and insights on pasture management.

June 4 continued with presentations delivered by a variety of speakers:

  • Shawn Francis – Francis Outfitters
  • Cindy Green – Canadian Forage and Grasslands Association
  • Kylie McCrae – Ducks Unlimited Canada
  • Valerie Zink & Barb Lavallee – Treaty Land Sharing Network

The afternoon featured additional presentations:

  • Lisa May – Indigenous Services Canada
  • Joanne Kwasnicki – SARM Plant Health Identification
  • Shelly Daniels – Saskatchewan Agriculture

The day concluded with a field session at the pasture, where participants engaged in grass and soil identification activities, reinforcing the knowledge shared throughout the training.
